Stop Selling to your Customers and Start Solving their Problems

Where do you go to market your business?  What gets the best response?  How do you know you are being seen?  There are so many questions to think about when marketing to your audience.

Customers are inundated with people selling to them everywhere they look and are often trying to avoid ads.  They are careful where they spend their time and money.  They want to know what companies they can trust and where they will get the best value.

With all this information overload that customers face, it’s unknown just how many impressions are needed to get someone to purchase an item or from a business.  While impressions are great, we can also set ourselves apart as a trustworthy business and a place of value through other ways of creative marketing.  Find ways to market your business without being overly sell-focused.  You can do this by solving your customer’s problems!!!

As a mom of 4 kids, I am always busy, constantly tired, and forever looking for ways my life can be simpler.  I don’t want to be sold something that isn’t going to help me achieve that simpler, better life.  So oftentimes, I look past ads and images and search for the answers to the problems I am dealing with.  That is where I want to spend my time and money, which are both such limited resources.  I look for businesses that I can connect with personally, to fix something or help me.

So, what does your business offer that can help others in their lives?  While it is great to have your logo and ad in places (yes, impressions matter), building trust and familiarity with your customers comes from interacting with them in a more personal way.

Instead of just making an ad that people can look past, try writing a blog post about a trick that has helped you.  Or make a video showcasing how your business can solve your customers' problems.  Focus your advertising on a specific community that you want to reach or can help.  Create partnerships with other local businesses that also help that community.

At Green Bay Area Mom, we work with local businesses to promote and share them with our community. We start by brainstorming what our parents need or want and match that to what the business offers.  We find tips or tricks the business can offer (just a little snippet) and use those to connect the community to them.

For example, if we are working with a tutoring service, we would look for tips on:

  • Children’s learning styles

  • Learning disabilities

  • How to make learning fun for the kids

Then we promote the business as the solution to helping your children learn.  The business becomes the expert in the community’s eyes, and they want to go to them to help their child learn.

So, what do you offer that can drastically improve someone’s life?  What can make a difference in their thinking?  How can a tip or trick that you know, help someone trust and get to know you as an expert?  Use those specific things to creatively market yourself and reach more of your target audience.
