5 Ways to Optimize Your Instagram Profile

Are you new to Instagram or trying to grow your Instagram business account? Growing a following on Instagram can help you to reach your business goals and help to build a community around your brand. If you’re struggling to grow your account on Instagram, your profile could be to blame.

Here are some ways to optimize your Instagram profile:

Choose a better profile picture

Take a look at your current photo. Is it a photo of you or does it represent what you do? The main purpose of your profile photo is for people to recognize you and your business. This helps to build brand awareness.

If you offer services, your profile photo should be a photo of you. This is because there are other people out there that likely offer the same services as you. In a service-based business, people are choosing you over your competitors so you want people to know and recognize you. If you sell physical products you could use a branded photo of your product or use your logo.

Use your first name in your bio

It’s important for your Instagram bio to include your first name. This way when people find you online and reach out to you, they know what to call you. A good place to put your name is in the handle or name field.

If your business doesn’t include your first name, you could list your business name as your account handle and what you want people to call you in the name field when editing your profile. This way people can search for you by your name or your business name. It also makes your business account feel more personal.

Make your mission or purpose clear

This is the most important part of your Instagram profile. When people first see your profile, you want your mission or purpose for the account to be clear. You want to craft a mission statement that shares who you help and what you can do to help them.

If you’re an Instagram coach, a good mission statement would be: “I help female entrepreneurs to grow their business on Instagram”. Here’s a formula you can work with: “I help [target market] to achieve [desired outcome of target market]”.

Create story highlights

Photos and videos posted in your Instagram stories feel more personal and interactive than content shown in the Instagram feed. Stories is where followers can really get to know you and see the behind-the-scenes of your business.

Utilizing highlights can help you to organize this content and create easily digestible categories that followers can review. Some highlights that you could create for your business include: about me, reviews, services or products, behind-the-scenes, and FAQs.

Add contact information

To complete your profile, you want to make sure your contact information is listed and accurate. Contact information could include email, phone, and website. People can always message you on Instagram but providing an additional contact method can lead to converting more followers into customers.

If you lead them to your website they have the option to join your email list or learn more about your business. If they subscribe to your email list, they would be entered into your sales funnels and this can help you to achieve your long-term business goals.
