Making a Life Doing What You Love

Is there something that you love to do? Something that lights you up inside but it isn’t something you’re actively doing. For me, I have always loved writing. In fact, it’s what I wanted to be when I grew up. That was my dream. But then one day it crashed to the ground. If I couldn’t be a writer, what would I be? What would I do?

I was told writing wasn’t something I could make money at, but it would be a nice hobby. So, it became a hobby. Fast forward to today and it is no longer a hobby, but an actual, full-fledged freelance writing business. I couldn’t be happier. I am doing what I love and making money doing it.

Why you should do what you love

Why on earth am I telling you this? What does this have to do with you? I believe each and every one of us has a dream, a gift inside of us. Some of us are wary of putting that dream, that gift out into the world. That was me a couple of years ago. But, I urge you to ask yourself what were you put here to do? How do you want to serve the world? What is your gift?

My dream, my gift is writing. I have always loved to write. Starting my writing business has not been smooth sailing. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some beautiful, take my breath away moments, but there have also been moments where I doubt myself and wonder if I’ll be successful.

So, let me share with you a couple of things that have truly helped me in my business journey. Things I think you can use too to help you in pursuing what your dream, your gift is.

Find a Coach

For me, realizing that I can make a living writing came through coaching. Today I still work with a coach to help me navigate this journey. Having a coach means having someone who cheers you on and helps you get back on track when you get off course. There are so many amazing coaches out there.

Join a Supportive Community

Second, I urge you to find a community or tribe of people to connect with, to collaborate with, to use as resources and to celebrate your wins with. For me, I found this community by joining The Nest. I urge you to check them out or find something similar.

Get Networking

Lastly, put yourself out there. Network! I know that sounds scary. Trust me, I know, I was petrified at my first networking event. But, I kept showing up and it got easier. You never know who you will meet and the connections and friendships you’ll make.

These are just a couple of helpful tools to use on your way to sharing your dream, your gift with this world. And if you want to turn it into a business, even better. I urge you, no I dare you to step into what you were created to do and share that with the world. The world needs your light and your gift. I’m still learning about this whole starting your own business thing, but I don’t regret taking the leap because this is what I was meant to do. What were you meant to do? Let’s hear it! Share it with us!
